Finishing the program and earning the certification are two different events. We keep them that way on purpose.

ALDHS • Completion and certification

ALDHS program completion and MA-C/A certification.

Completing the ALDHS program earns a Curriculum Vitae of Competencies: a record of the curriculum and skills you demonstrated. An eligible graduate may then choose the separate assessment examination; passing it earns the ALDHS MA-C/A certification.

Program completion and your competency record

Two separate outcomes

1

Program completion

Complete the required curriculum hours, competencies, and published obligations. The program then ends.

Outcome: Curriculum Vitae of Competencies

2

Post-program assessment

An eligible graduate may elect to apply, sit for, and pass the separate ALDHS assessment.

Outcome if passed: MA-C/A

Program completion: Curriculum Vitae of Competencies

A learner who completes the published requirements of the ALDHS Medical Assisting—Clinical and Administrative program receives an ALDHS Curriculum Vitae of Competencies.

This verifiable document records completed education and demonstrated competencies. Graduates can present it to prospective employers as evidence of their preparation for medical-assisting work, regardless of whether they take the separate ALDHS examination. The program is complete at that point.

How ALDHS describes evidence

ALDHS records should distinguish knowledge assessment, simulation, laboratory practice, externship or practicum, employment, and live-patient procedures. Each category must be identified according to what actually occurred and verified by the party with authority to confirm it.

A record an employer can review. Use your Vitae to show the training you completed, discuss the competencies assessed, and identify further workplace preparation with your supervising provider.

Students can review the public guide to clinical experience and records for a plain-language explanation of these categories.

The separate MA-C/A examination

After program completion, an eligible graduate may choose to pursue the Allied Healthcare Sciences Assessment Exam Certification for Medical Assistant - Clinical and Administrative. A candidate who meets the applicable rules and passes earns the title MA-C/A.

Eligibility, application, scheduling, attempting, passing, and any title-use or renewal rule belong to the separate assessment process. The examination is not a required program hour, course, competency, or condition of graduation. Program completion alone does not confer MA-C/A.

What candidates must receive before testing

Before an examination is scheduled or accepted, ALDHS must publish or provide the candidate rules that apply at that time, including eligibility, identification, format, scoring and passing, attempts or retesting, fees, accommodations, conduct, appeals, record verification, expiration or renewal if applicable, and title-use rules.

Current students and candidates should rely on the version provided through My Allied and retain a copy for their records.

Disclosure: Curriculum Vitae of Competencies and MA-C/A are ALDHS-issued outcomes. Verify any employer, state, or outside credential requirement directly with the responsible party.

Using your records to pursue work and further certification

Your Vitae has a practical purpose: making your preparation visible and verifiable when you apply for medical-assisting work. You do not need to take the optional ALDHS examination before seeking employment. The employer evaluates your preparation and the duties, training, and supervision needed for its workplace.

California employment requirements and outside certification requirements are separate questions. Our Program explains the current-employment CCBMA route, the required employer proficiency statement, and the supporting application evidence. The ALDHS award is not a state license or a CCBMA credential.

Certificate verification and record assistance

For an MA-C/A verification request, provide the recipient’s first and last name exactly as printed when the certificate was awarded, together with the certificate number. These details identify the award ALDHS needs to check against its issuing records.

A certificate number identifies a record; confirming that a credential is active requires checking its recorded status. A record of program completion and a separately earned examination credential must be identified separately.

Record assistance: Students can contact ALDHS through My Allied for help recovering a certificate number, locating their award, resolving a name discrepancy, or requesting verification of their Vitae or examination credential. The public site does not currently provide an automated MA-C/A status lookup.
